Next Steps In the Process

Before You Begin...

Interested Applicant Should:

Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America.

Identify a person of color (ethnic and racial identities that have been historically marginalized and under-resourced in U.S. higher education).

Be able to demonstrate current (and past), continued volunteerism and service in their local communities.

Be ready to clearly articulate their leadership involvement and expand on their personal development as a result of those experiences throughout the application and interview process.

Be willing to stay committed to service, program requirements, academic excellence, and social justice throughout their 4-year experience at Ithaca College.

Getting Started

Next, candidates should:

1. Apply to Ithaca College via the Common Application. Auditions and interviews, which are required for majors in the School of Music and Department of Theatre Arts, must also be completed.

2. Complete the MLK Scholar Program application in IC Connect. The MLK Scholar Program application for fall 2021 applicants will be available during the first week of November (2020)

(Please note that you will not be able to access the application until you have submitted your application for admission to Ithaca College.)

3. Stay tuned for upcoming info sessions and opportunities to engage with current MLK Scholars. This website will be updated regularly throughout the fall and spring semester with dates, links, and descriptions for these opportunities. 

4. Watch your email. If you are selected as a semi-finalist, you will be invited to an interview with one of our Program Team faculty or staff members.

Important Dates and Deadlines

Admission Application Deadlines

  • November 1: Early decision
  • December 1: Early action
  • December 1: Regular decision (School of Music and the Department of Theatre Arts)
  • February 1: Regular decision (all other majors)

MLK Scholar Program Application Deadline

  • January 18, 2021 (MLK National Holiday) before 11:59pm

Mid-February: Candidates are notified about their standing after a first-round screening and review of applications conducted by our recruitment team. Semi-finalists will receive information to schedule an interview with one of our Program Support Team members (*All MLK Scholar Interviews during the spring 2021 semester will be remote. Semifinalists can choose a phone call or video chat (Zoom) to have their interviews conducted). 

Early March: Interviews will be conducted and additional programs for semi-finalists will be available. 

Late March: Scholarship recipients are notified and announced.
