Fulbright Scholar Dr. Georgina Catacora‑Vargas Joins ENVS for the 2025-26 Academic Year

Bolivian agroecologist Dr. Georgina Catacora‑Vargas—a 2025‑26 Fulbright Scholar—will spend next year at Ithaca College, bringing world‑class expertise in participatory, gender‑aware food‑systems research to our ENVS community.

Dr. Georgina Catacora-Vargas has a background in agricultural engineering with a Ph.D. in Agroecology. She teaches agroecology in the Academic Peasant Unit “Tiahuanacu” of the Bolivian Catholic University, and is also President of the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology (SOCLA). 

Her work is transdisciplinary and rooted in participatory-action research, focusing on socio-ecological systems around agroecology, biodiversity, and food systems, with a gender perspective (with emphasis on women) and a human rights approach (with emphasis on farmers’ rights).
