Last week, Paula traveled to Zacatecas, Mexico where she participated in a conference to both honor and discuss the contributions of Dr. Ben Nelson who, with many colleagues, dedicated forty years to understanding the prehistory of northwestern Mexico. Paula's work with Ben focused on how environmental conditions influenced the people who lived in the semi-arid region at the site of La Quemada (in background of the first photo) by reconstructing their diet and its relationship to climate conditions using paleoethnobotany and tree-ring analysis (dendrochronology).
