Time Away From Work Programs

If you need to be away from work for a period of time, you may be eligible for a paid or unpaid leave of absence. You should contact the Office of Human Resources before taking any type of leave so they can explain your options during a leave and help you maintain your benefits. The types of leaves Ithaca College provides are as follows:

Medical Leave Programs

Paid Family Leave (Faculty & Staff)

Ithaca College provides paid family leave for eligible faculty, staff, administrators, and students. This benefit is paid for by the College.

Faculty Medical Leave

Faculty may apply for leave of absences or reductions in load due to medical reasons.

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

Apply for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave due to the birth, adoption, or illness of an employee or immediate family member.

Short Term Disability

Staff members are covered by New York State Disability after four weeks of employment.

Workers Compensation

In the event that you are injured at work this benefit provides income protection, medical, and survivor benefits for job related illnesses or injuries.

Non-Medical Leaves

The College offers a variety of non-medical leaves for personal leaves, for civic responsibilities and service, and for bereavement.

Jury Duty

The College recognizes the civic responsibility of its employees to serve on juries or as a subpoenaed court witness.

Time Off to Vote

Employees who are registered voters may take time off to vote if they do not have four consecutive non-work hours in which to vote.

Military Leave

Leave for a period of required active duty or training with the Armed Forces of the United States or any of its reserve components.

Public Service Leave

The College provides paid time off for regular, benefit-eligible employees engaged in certain short-term public service activities.

Personal Leave (Staff)

An unpaid leave for staff and administrators, beginning once all vacation and personal leave has been used.

Bereavement Leave

In the event of a death in the immediate family, employees will be paid for up to five (5) days of bereavement leave.
