On-Campus Food Pantry Opens

By IC News staff, February 25, 2019
New resource is part of broad effort to combat food insecurity on campus.

A new, on-campus food pantry officially opened Thursday, Feb. 21, in the DeMotte Room of the Campus Center. Established with the assistance of a grant from the Lissy Family Foundation, the pantry will serve all members of the IC community. It will be open at least one hour per week, and dates and times will be announced via Intercom.

More than 80 guests were served in the two previous weeks in a “soft” opening, and more than 30 students participated on the first day. The shelves were completely stocked thanks to donations from offices across the college, as well as through cash donations at retail dining locations on campus. Cash donations will continue to be accepted at all retail dining locations. Non-perishable food items, personal care items and paper products will continue to be accepted at the Campus Center Information Desk for those who would like to support the pantry.

Another way to assist Ithaca College in addressing food insecurity is by making a donation through the IC giving site. Under “Designation,” please indicate that you would like to “Give to area(s) of your choice,” and then specify “IC Fund to Address Food Insecurity.”  Your gift will be used to purchase food, personal care items, and other supplies needed by our campus community.
