Dear Ithaca College Community:
New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that, as of Thursday, June 25, individuals traveling from states with significant community spread of COVID-19 must quarantine for a 14-day period from the time of last contact within the identified state. As of Thursday, the travel advisory applies to Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah. The list of impacted states will be updated regularly on the New York State website.
Members of the Ithaca College community arriving from these states are expected to abide by the quarantine regulations, and they are strongly advised not to travel to these states in order to avoid being subject to quarantine upon their return to Ithaca. The requirements do not apply to any individual passing through designated states for a limited duration (less than 24 hours) through the course of travel.
Information for Ithaca College employees who must quarantine can be found on the Human Resources website.
Students from the designated states will be unable to come to campus for move-out and will be contacted by the Office of Residential Life to discuss packing/storage and shipping options. Students currently living in Ithaca who travel to a designated state should contact the Hammond Health Center at 607-274-3177 upon your return to Ithaca to register your need to voluntarily quarantine. The Health Center will be able to answer questions and arrange for wrap around services during the period of quarantine. If you need to report this information outside of Health Center business hours, please contact the Office of Public Safety at 607-274-3333.
Exceptions to the travel advisory are permitted for essential workers and are limited based on the duration of time in designated states, as well as the intended duration of time in New York. In addition to New York, the states of New Jersey and Connecticut will also be enforcing these quarantine regulations.
According to Governor Cuomo, New York has gone from having the highest number of COVID-19 cases to some of the lowest rates in the country, and the quarantine regulations are intended to keep the viral transmission rate from once again rising because people are traveling into New York and bringing it with them. The designated states are those with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a 7-day rolling average or a state with a 10% or higher positivity rate over a 7-day rolling average.
Please be aware of these regulations as you make any travel plans, especially with the upcoming Independence Day holiday weekend.
