Head Football Coaches Test Their Arms in the Bronx

Ithaca’s Michael Toerper and Cortland’s Curt Fitzpatrick to toss first pitch at Yankee Stadium on July 28.

The New York Yankees have announced that Ithaca College head football coach Mike Toerper and SUNY Cortland head football coach Curt Fitzpatrick will take to the mound on Thursday, July 28, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch ahead of the Yankees' contest with the Kansas City Royals at 7:10 p.m.

The show of collegial competitive spirit and playful fun is one of the many creative ways the Yankees organization, Ithaca College, and SUNY Cortland are jointly promoting the highly anticipated 2022 Cortaca Jug football game at Yankee Stadium in the fall.

To highlight what is sure to be a historic day in the Bronx on Saturday, November 12, Yankee Stadium is hosting Cortaca Jug Day on July 28, when the Yankees face the Royals.

Cortaca Jug Day Pre-Game

To get pumped up for the baseball game, in true Bombers spirit, Ithaca College has organized a pre-game at nearby Stan’s Sports Bar, located at 836 River Avenue. The IC pre-game will begin two hours before the first pitch and fans can register here. A cash bar and a free swag item will be included with registration.

“As excitement continues to build for the football game itself, Cortaca Jug Day at Yankee Stadium is a great opportunity to experience the most iconic venue in the world of sports ahead of IC in the City: Reunion and Cortaca ’22 this November,” said M. Quincy Davidson, interim vice president for philanthropy and engagement. “We’re very excited to celebrate with the entire IC community in New York in July, and again from November 10 to 12.”
