Presidential Search Update

Submitted on behalf of James W. Nolan Jr. ’77, Parent ’01, chair of the Presidential Search Committee

Your search committee has been active! Since my last communication, we have been very busy in narrowing the pool of applicants. We are pleased by the quality of the candidates we have been in contact with and encouraged by the prospect of a successful conclusion to the search. The work takes time, patience, and persistence, and I am grateful to the committee members for their efforts.

The committee is deeply engaged in due diligence. The role of a college president requires a very broad set of skills, experiences, and attributes. We are fully vetting our candidates to ensure we have a thorough understanding of how they collaborate and communicate with constituents, provide direction and leadership, and handle a wide variety of issues and challenges. This process takes time, but it is critical to ensuring that we have a comprehensive assessment of each of our candidates.

We are not prepared to finalize and outline the remainder of the process just yet. However, we have taken to heart all of the input from the IC community. As I have described in earlier communications, we are balancing many overlapping factors, including the intensity of the competitive environment, the individual needs and schedules of our candidates, the privacy of our candidates, and the confidentiality of key discussions. We are moving through an extensive and complex process to address the many needs and requests that have been articulated, and we will detail our final steps in the process shortly. In the meantime, we ask the IC community to have continued patience as we conduct this sensitive work.

You can be assured that the members of the search committee are conscientiously representing the many constituencies of Ithaca College. We are actively engaged in productive dialogue and in keeping our institution’s best interests at the core of our decision-making process.

On behalf of the committee, I want to thank you for your interest in this important effort. We look forward to sharing our work with you.

Jim Nolan ’77
Chair of the Presidential Search Committee
