Out and About

The third week of Spring Welcome events had students exploring the IC campus.

The third week of Ithaca College’s Spring Welcome was accompanied by snow, skating and scavenger hunts on South Hill.

One of the highlights of the week was Skate Across IC. Located next to the Campus Center, the event allowed students to ice skate on a temporary, mobile skating rink, made of a  synthetic ice–like surface. The size of the rink allowed students to skate with others, while remaining socially distant.

Kathryn Miller ’24 wasn’t sure what to expect when she signed up for Skate Across IC — it’s not common to find a skating rink on a campus — but she said the atmosphere, which included music and friendly competition, was lively.

“The people who were working were super energetic, and they encouraged my friends and I to race, and it was actually really fun because they were supporting us and cheering us on,” she said.

Last Call

There’s still one more weekend of Spring Welcome events:

A Canvas for Change
Friday, Feb. 26, 7 p.m.

Hot Cocoa To-Go
Saturday, Feb. 27, noon to 3 p.m.

Krista Sullivan ’24 and her friends enjoyed having a space to go where they could socialize and feel safe at the same time.

“We appreciate IC putting in the effort so that we have the opportunity to hang out with people safely,” Sullivan said.

Another event was the Residence Hall Association (RHA) GeoQuest, a scavenger hunt that students could play on their own or with a friend. By scanning QR codes, they were directed to various campus locations.

Connor Watson ’23, president of the RHA, said he hoped the event helped students feel more connected.

“I'm excited to get RHA back on the map,” Watson said. “I'm excited for students to feel a sense of community at the college.”
