President La Jerne Terry Cornish has been named a “Game Changer” by Special Olympics New York. She will be honored by the organization at its “Night of Champions” on Thursday, June 8, just ahead of the annual Summer Games being hosted in Ithaca. President Cornish will be recognized along with four other local dignitaries, all of whom have demonstrated a deep commitment to Special Olympics New York and its mission.

Night of Champions is a community celebration organized by Special Olympics New York to kick off its annual Summer Games weekend. Guests will be treated to a taste of Ithaca featuring local food and drink, an interactive Unified Bocce exhibition, raffles, and entertainment by JB Party Sounds—all while honoring the group of 2023 Game Changers. The June 8 event will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Stewart Park’s large pavilion, rain or shine. The Special Olympics New York Summer Games will take place on South Hill and at other local venues, including Ithaca High School, on Saturday, June 10. Opening Ceremonies are scheduled for Friday, June 9, at 7 p.m. on the IC campus. This is the second of a three-year commitment by the college to host the Summer Games.
