Dharon Jones ’20 will make his Broadway debut next month.

Ithaca College senior Dharon Jones will make his Broadway debut in February, when “West Side Story” opens at the Broadway Theatre. Previews began Dec. 10, and the show opens Feb. 20.

Jones was featured in a story by The New Yorker on Jan. 6, when he was cast to be Action, a member of the Jets, a street gang in Manhattan. On Jan. 9, it was announced that the acting major would take on the role of Riff, after his castmate suffered an injury.

The story highlighted the avant-garde choreography by Anne Teresa De Keersmacker, breaking from the original 1957 choreography by Jerome Robbins. (Spoiler alert: there’s no more snapping.) The show is directed by Tony Award winner Ivo Van Hove.

As a junior, Jones appeared in IC’s site-specific production of “Little Shop of Horrors” at Bool’s Flower Shop downtown and in the ensemble of IC's production of "Ragtime," directed by Eric Jordan Young '93. He also appeared in the series finale of the Netflix show “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.”

IC alumnus Josh Andres Rivera ’16 was also cast in Stephen Spielberg’s film adaptation of “West Side Story,” set to be released this coming December.
