Summer’s Scholars at IC

Summer Scholars program provides opportunities for students.

Every year, more than 30 students are invited to spend eight weeks over the summer on IC’s campus to do a deep dive into a wide variety of subjects via the School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) Summer Scholars Program. This residential program gives students opportunities to explore chosen projects—and they are paid for their time.

“I was already entertaining the idea of spending the summer in Ithaca, and I was like, ‘What? I can make art and get paid?’ And I have all these ideas that are ready to be explored,” said Safara Vache ’25, an IC art major.

The program allows students to develop as scholars, researchers, and artists by working closely with expert faculty mentors. Students apply to the program through an application process early in the spring semester. Some students propose their own project while others participate in faculty-led ongoing research projects in their field.

David Brown, an associate dean of H&S, coordinates the program. He stated, “The most remarkable thing we witnessed last summer was the same thing we always see: the tremendous dedication that these young scholars bring to their work and the pride they take in sharing the results of their work.”
