The service I've done for my community helps with homelessness and hunger in Syracuse, NY. Homelessness and Hunger are big problems in CNY, as the homeless rates have increased by 192% since 2019. Working with the Rescue mission, it is clear to see that hundreds of people who can grab food come in every day in long lines, awaiting their meals. The service I did was 20 hours of working with the Rescue Mission to serve food to the homeless and hungry people. I discovered through this work that I have a passion for helping those in need. It felt good to see a smile on their faces after giving them food, even though their life is not what they wanted them to be.

Being the joy in their day impacted me to help even more people doing work with children with autism for the YMCA as a counselor and Sandwich Saturdays, giving more food out to the homeless. I found a passion in helping people in my community and in the surrounding communities in Central NY. It starts with one person to make a change. My friends have joined me to help with the volunteer work that I've done, and hopefully, in the coming years, Syracuse's homeless rates will have dropped because of the work that I have done and will continue to do to help my community.
