Amaya Bollinger is a first-year student who is passionate about social justice, community engagement, and lifelong learning. Inspired by a desire to create positive change, she is committed to expanding her understanding of social issues and discovering meaningful ways to serve and strengthen the communities around her.

Throughout high school, Amaya was exposed to a wide range of cultures, perspectives, and life experiences. These opportunities helped shape her appreciation for diversity and sparked her interest in learning how different values, traditions, and experiences contribute to vibrant and inclusive communities. By approaching others with curiosity and an open mind, she continues to seek opportunities to deepen her understanding of the world and the people within it.

As a prospective Exercise Science major, Amaya hopes to build a career centered on supporting and empowering others. She looks forward to working closely with individuals from diverse backgrounds, forming meaningful connections, and promoting health and wellness in ways that are accessible and inclusive. Through both her academic pursuits and community involvement, she aims to make a lasting impact while continuing to grow as a leader, advocate, and learner.

To me, being an MLK Scholar means to learn from the past and protect the freedom that is granted to each individual today. Protecting the integrity of those who fought before us, and using the voice given to speak against injustice.
