Milo has long been committed to building and sustaining strong communities. Through his involvement in high school choir and theater, he developed an appreciation for the importance of collaboration, trust, and belonging. In these creative spaces, he learned that strong communities are essential to success, both on and off the stage.
His commitment to community building was further strengthened through his work as an Environmental Steward Intern with APANO (Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon). In this role, Milo contributed to food pantry initiatives and engaged in projects focused on environmental justice. Through these experiences, he gained valuable insight into the connections between environmental equity and social inequality, particularly the relationship between access to urban tree canopies and socioeconomic status. This work reinforced his belief that healthy communities depend on both social support and equitable access to resources.
Milo is also an active member of the Cambodian American Community of Oregon (CACO), where he serves on the youth committee and works to strengthen connections among Cambodian Americans while helping preserve and celebrate his cultural heritage. Although he first attended CACO events as a child, he became increasingly involved during high school, volunteering at the organization’s annual camping event, which now attracts approximately 1,000 participants each year. Through this work, he has had the opportunity to connect with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences while fostering a stronger sense of community and cultural pride.
Connection lies at the heart of Milo’s approach to leadership and service. While he does not view himself as a highly assertive leader, he believes in the power of collaboration and mutual respect. He values environments where every voice is heard and where no one perspective is considered more important than another. This philosophy has shaped how he works with others and how he contributes to the communities of which he is a part.
As an APRMC (Advertising, Public Relations, and Marketing Communications) major, Milo is excited to pursue a career in media and communications. No matter where his professional journey leads, he hopes to use his skills to bring people together, amplify marginalized voices, and foster meaningful connections across communities. Through storytelling, communication, and advocacy, he aims to create spaces where individuals feel seen, valued, and empowered.
