Brand Hierarchy

The branded house of Ithaca College

What is a branded house?

Companies that organize their business offerings around the concept of one branded house sell differing products (or services) under the umbrella of one main product (or service). Think of Apple with products such as the iMac, iPhone, iMovie, and iPad. All of these products are clearly connected to the core brand, Apple, and all products lead with the Apple logo.

We commit to unifying our work around the core Ithaca College brand as one branded house. Based on this strategic foundation, our branding is strong and centralized while strategically flexible enough to showcase specific areas of the college—including the distinctive offerings in each of IC’s schools, programs, departments, and offices.

Differentiation Within the Branded House

Each of IC’s five schools can distinguish themselves within this framework. Unique photography and iconography, developed in collaboration with the Marketing Communications (MarCom) team, allow for visual differentiation while maintaining brand alignment. Additionally, each school can highlight their distinctiveness through language that speaks directly to the programs, audiences, and areas of expertise they offer in their marketing materials and storytelling. This balance of consistency and customization helps tell a cohesive yet compelling story about the breadth and depth of an Ithaca College education.

Resource Guide for Schools, Departments, and Programs

To help schools, departments, and units express their unique voice within the context of the IC brand, we've created a resource guide as an overview of the materials, templates, and promotions recommended by MarCom. This includes a system of templates for print and digital materials in Canva.
