The Ithaca College brand is centered around people and place. Video should document the Ithaca experience in an authentic way that allows the viewer to identify with the subject matter and the spirit of the individual(s).

When using or producing video, make sure that the content expresses Ithaca College’s core messages—theory (academic), practice (experiential/internship), and performance (outcomes)—which provide a strong arc for stories about the IC experience.

Video should support and enhance our core messages and be representative of (and meaningful to) our audiences, including prospective students and their caregivers, students, alumni, faculty, and staff.

This video is a powerful example of how IC’s visual storytelling brings our brand positioning to life. It follows students across majors, interests, and moments of discovery—showing what it looks like to learn by doing, to build meaningful relationships with faculty, and to pursue many passions at once. From the IC Natural Lands to the studio and the stage, this video captures the heart of our pillars: interdisciplinary thinking, small-college access, real outcomes, and the freedom to shape a nonlinear path with confidence.

Uses for Video

  • Help our audiences envision themselves as part of the community.
  • Establish a sense of place.
  • Show students interacting with their surroundings—either in groups or individually.
  • Showcase the host of relationships at IC—interaction between students, mentorship between faculty or staff and students, etc.
  • Focus on the hands-on learning experience that is central to academic programs at IC—theory, practice, and performance.
  • Reflect the diversity of our community and audiences: age, ethnicity, race, etc.

When to Use Video

Consider the following before choosing video as your medium:

  • Video combines narrative story, visual components, and audio to tell a story that emotionally resonates.
  • Is your content easily structured as a story—with a protagonist, a conflict, an arc with change over time?
  • Does the content form a story that can move your audience emotionally? Is that important? Video combines a narrative story, visual components, and audio to tell a story that resonates with the audience.
  • Does the content require a lot of explanation? If so, a news article or an infographic may better convey your information.
  • When considering ideas, ask yourself, “Why would viewers share this video?”
