Dr. Wonyul Bae is an Associate Professor of Sport Management in the School of Business at Ithaca College. He teaches a variety of courses, including Introduction to Sport Management, Sport Analytics, Esports, College Sport, and Sport Agency.
His current research focuses on two primary areas: artificial intelligence (AI) in professional sports and participation motivation and well-being in emerging sports. His AI-related research examines the application of large language models, particularly ChatGPT, to predict sport game outcomes. His research on emerging sports focuses on pickleball and park golf, exploring participation motivation, psychological well-being, and factors influencing sport participation and continued engagement. His broader scholarly interests include sport marketing, sport consumer behavior, and sport communication.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Bae brings more than 20 years of professional experience as a basketball agent, representing players in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) and assisting athletes in securing professional contracts throughout Asia. A former basketball player in Korea, he combines his industry experience with academic teaching and research to provide students with practical insights into the global sport industry.
Dr. Bae is also a certified golf teaching professional through the United States Golf Teachers Federation (USGTF).
