Students just completing their freshmen, sophomore, and junior year are eligible to apply to the Ithaca Young Writers Institute.
How to Apply
Applications are open.
Submit the online application. (Applicants must create a Campminder account.) You may apply in two genres, but you will only be accepted into one.
Save your username and password!
Include Parent/Guardian info first, or else we'll think you have your parent's name!
Once you've submitted the application, and it's time to upload additional application requirements, like your writing samples, visit the LOGIN page, and sign in using the username and password you created.
Click the link for Documents and follow the instructions to upload.
Submit a writing sample: For Poetry, 3–5 poems totaling no more than 10 pages; For Fiction and Sci/Fi Fantasy, 5–10 pages, double-spaced. For cross-genre Personal Essay / Creative NonFiction, students may upload a sample of 5-10 pages containing either poems, a true story or personal essay, text/image combination, or any combination of the above (as long as it is 5-10 pages). Writing Samples can be returned in one of the following ways:
- Uploaded to your application account using the account username and password created during the application process. If you're returning to your account to upload documents, visit the LOGIN page, and click on the link for Documents;
- or faxed to 866-924-6272;
- or mailed to Ithaca Young Writers Institute, Ithaca College, Extended Studies Job Hall 208, 953 Danby Road, Ithaca, NY, 14850;
- or emailed as a PDF to firstname.lastname@example.org. (We're sorry, but Google Docs are not accepted.)
There is no application fee.
Early application is recommended. Application deadline: June 1. Applications will not be considered complete until writing samples have been received.
Payment in full reserves a seat in your admitted genre workshop preference. Seat availability cannot be guaranteed until full payment is made. Program payment deadline: June 5.
Tuition for the online 2020 Ithaca Young Writers Institute is $300.
A limited number of need-based, partial scholarships are available. Requests for aid must be submitted to email@example.com by June 1 to be considered. A financial aid application is available for download below.

Should an application have to be canceled after the complete program fees have been paid, please notify the Office of Extended Studies in writing.
A refund of the balance of the program fee minus the application fee and the non-refundable deposit will be made if notice of cancellation is received by June 1. Cancellations after that date will be considered on an individual basis, and resultant refunds will be partial.
No refund will be given to any student dismissed from a program.
