Ithaca College Gerontology Institute to Screen Documentary

A documentary about a group of long-retired Broadway entertainers who dive into a production of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be screened at Ithaca College on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Free and open to the public, “Still Dreaming” will be shown at 7 p.m. in Textor 102.

With a play that is usually about young love and sex farce, the residents from the Lillian Booth Actors Home find that, for them, the themes of perception, reality and dreaming deeply resonate. “Still Dreaming” follows their rehearsals as opening night approaches. Tempers flare, health concerns abound and disaster seems imminent, but as these former entertainers forge ahead, they realize that creativity is a magical force of renewal.

Following the screening, a discussion with filmmaker Hank Rogerson will be held via Skype.

The showing is sponsored by the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute in partnership with the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies. For more information, visit www.ithaca.edu/gerontology.
