Panel Discussion on IC professor’s documentary “America Street” to take place Sept. 23.

On Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 4 p.m., the Park Center for Independent Media and the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) will host an online discussion on “America Street,” a feature-length documentary written, produced and directed by Ithaca College assistant professor Idrissou Mora-Kpai.

This discussion follows the world theatrical premiere of the documentary. The film opens on Friday, Sept. 18, for a one-week exclusive theatrical run. A two-day rental of the film can be purchased at Cinemapolis via its Virtual Cinema platform.

Filmed in Charleston, South Carolina, during 2015, the film highlights the impact of institutional racism on a community’s residents, focusing in particular on corner-store owner Joe Watson.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Patricia Zimmermann, professor of screen studies at Ithaca College and co-director of FLEFF. The panel will include professors Mora-Kpai; R.A. Judy from the University of Pittsburgh; Reece Auguiste from the University of Colorado, Boulder; Janet Walker from University of California, Santa Barbara; and Brett Bossard ’95, the executive director of Cinemapolis.
