Emma Brown is a third-year Documentary Studies and Production Major with minors in Still Photography and Religious Studies. She is from Catskill, New York, and is a proud first-generation college student. Emma is passionate about the protection of human rights, upholding democracy through the power of media, and creating spaces where voices can be heard and uplifted in her documentary photography and films. Since being at IC, she has participated in the Finger Lakes ReUse group service project, making commercials, short films, and sorting through donations. This semester she will be the group facilitator. Emma is also continuing her individual service with Loaves and Fishes, where she prepares meals for the Ithaca community. Last year, Emma was a member of Park Productions, the Treasurer and Photo Editor for Buzzsaw magazine, the set photographer for the ICTV show, After Hours , and a member of the IC Sand Mandala Planning Committee. This semester, Emma will be returning as Treasurer of Buzzsaw magazine and as a member of the photo team for Park Productions. She is a new member of both the Society of Professional Journalists and IC Students for Justice in Palestine. While Emma specializes in documentary film, she also has a love for creating narrative films. Many weekends she can be found on a student film set as a cinematographer or other member of the camera crew. Looking ahead to the 2026 spring semester, Emma is excited to be going abroad to Spain and attending IAU Barcelona.
