Emma Brown is a fourth-year Documentary Studies and Production Major with minors in Still Photography and Religious Studies. She is from Catskill, New York, and is a proud first-generation college student. Since being at IC, she has participated in the Finger Lakes ReUse group service project, facilitating, making commercials, short films, and sorting through donations. Emma will continue this project this year along with her individual service project with Loaves and Fishes, where she will prepare meals for the Ithaca community. Last year, Emma was the treasurer of Buzzsaw Magazine, a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, and a member of the IC Sand Mandala Planning Committee. This year, Emma will be joining the photo team at Park Productions and The Ithacan . She will also be returning to WIC (Women in Communications) and IC Students for Justice in Palestine. Last spring, Emma studied abroad at IAU Barcelona, focusing on politics, photojournalism, and film. Upon returning for the summer, she worked at her family’s bakery, served at a local restaurant, and worked on several local film productions as a camera PA. Emma is passionate about the protection of human rights and creating spaces where voices can be heard and uplifted in her work. She is excited to be working on her documentary thesis this semester about wildland firefighters. While Emma specializes in documentary film, she also has a love for creating narrative films. Many weekends she can be found on a student film set as a member of the camera crew.
