Sophie Glassman is a junior Writing for Film, Television, and Emerging Media major and one of the four new Park Scholars in the rising junior cohort. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Sophie is passionate about the power of storytelling to create connections, community, and social awareness. After spending the past two years in the Ithaca College Leadership Scholar Program, Sophie continues to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Last fall, she built a partnership through the Service Saturday program and BBBS, where students could assist with events, create and maintain safe spaces for the children, ultimately leading to several students getting matched in the program. One of Sophie's primary goals for her individual service this semester is to become matched with a little sister in the program. Sophie’s creative work spans multiple platforms on campus. She has contributed to two ICTV writers' rooms, helping develop original comedic material for the network. For three seasons in a row, After Hours, a late-night comedy talk show that Sophie contributes to, has received the ICTV Excellence in Writing Award.She also writes for Buzzsaw Magazine, creating satirical essays that highlight and critique relevant media. This semester, Sophie joined Ithaca's Sketch Comedy Club, where she collaborates with peers to examine, appreciate, and create sketches. Through her involvement, she has strengthened her writing skills while exploring the ways media can entertain and spark meaningful dialogue. Sophie also works as a Student Leadership Consultant in the Office of Student Engagement. In this role, she supports students in finding and establishing campus organizations, developing leadership skills, and creating campus connections. Through this position, she teaches Student Leadership Institute sessions to her peers to guide them through leadership within student organizations on campus. As a Park Scholar, Sophie is dedicated to blending her creative pursuits with her commitment to service. She aspires to pursue a career in television writing while continuing to utilize media as a platform to contribute to her community creatively.
