CJ is a second-year Television, Film, Photography major from Dallas, TX, with minors in both Art and Writing for Film, Television, and Emerging Media. As a first-year, CJ volunteered at both the Village at Ithaca and the Community School of Music and Art. Through these experiences they were able to connect with community members through creativity. Their favorite memory from volunteering last year was when they got to help muralist Nico Cathcart at CSMA take photos of her models for the mural that is now on the side of the building. On campus they became a DJ at VIC Radio, the Creative Director of iSign (IC’s ASL and Deaf culture club), wrote for Buzzsaw magazine on occasion, and worked on two ICTV shows, The Director’s Chair and South Hill Live! . Over the summer, they volunteered at the art non-profit Work/Shop where they helped run art activities at local parks and Work/Shop’s studio. This school year they continue to DJ at VIC and are a part of iSign but have also started a new job at the IC Makerspace and Digital Media Lab alongside auditioning for shows through clubs like the Dead Playwright’s Players. For their service work they have joined other Park Scholars at Ithaca Reuse and will be volunteering at the Tompkins County Public Library. They will also be helping the Graphic Novel Advisory Board with their volunteering at small, rural libraries in the Tompkins County area.
