Thomas is a B.F.A. Film major with a mission to use storytelling to ignite social change and build community. He is a passionate filmmaker who has worked on multiple short films throughout high school. These original films were created entirely by a student run club that Thomas ran and helped to found; the club drew in cast and crew from among Thomas’s most passionate classmates throughout the school. He also worked as a technical director for multiple theater productions, being recognized at the Independence Awards for his creative leadership. These experiences emphasized the value of collaboration in media and have pushed him to pursue filmmaking as a career. This year, Thomas participates in group service with other Park Scholars through weekly visits to McGraw House, where he and the other Park Scholars work directly with senior residents, providing companionship as they help residents navigate their personal technology. Thomas also volunteers with a local food coop, using film to raise awareness and support for their mission. On campus, Thomas is excited to take advantage of the opportunity to get on set and work collaboratively with other young filmmakers; upon arriving at Ithaca College, Thomas immediately began working as a Production Assistant on Park Scholar John Murillo’s film, Anicca. He is a member of the New York Film and Television Student Alliance and has joined multiple Park Productions teams. Thomas is also a member of the IC Recreational Pickleball and Badminton Club. His goal as a film student and Park Scholar is to learn the skills needed to be an accomplished and socially responsible filmmaker in service of socially driven organizations.
