Human-Environment Geography

My teaching prepares students for work and life in an interconnected world of local-global interactions.  My students learn valuable job skills in environmental studies and science, such as land and water resource management, mapping, risk assessment, and project design.  My teaching is rooted in the critical thinking of the liberal arts tradition, and all my courses deal with themes of globalization, space, place, and scale.

My research is collaborative and students play a key role. Current projects focus on forest carbon dynamics and the management of natural areas by institutes of higher education.

Recent projects include:

I have served since 2012 as Faculty Manager and Committee Co-Chair for Ithaca College Natural Lands (ICNL), a 500+ acre conservation reserve system.

I will serve as ENVS Department Chair from Fall 2021 through Spring 2024.  I welcome inquiries from prospective students and their families about both of our degree programs (Environmental Studies BA & Environmental Science BS).
