April Cascante, May '26

April

Hi! I'm April, a Senior majoring in World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures with minors in Writing and Advertising, PR, and Marketing Communications (APRMC). I'm also the Peer Coordinator for the H&S Pathways Program. Outside of that, I serve as the Senior Copywriting and Poetry Editor for Stillwater Magazine and manage our social media. Additionally, I founded Tinta Libre Literary & Art Magazine. As a Hispanic, first-generation student, I know the journey can be challenging, but my advice to Pathways students is this: progress isn’t always linear, and slow progress is still progress.

Hello! I'm Ashan Anthonisz-Chandrasena, a senior majoring in Politics and Writing, with minors in Education Studies and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies. I’m actively involved across multiple campus departments, serving as a Peer Career Advisor for the Career Center, a Peer Leader with the Office of Student Success, a Brand Ambassador for WYSA, and a member of the Ithaca Men's Varsity Rowing team. Additionally, I contribute to various organizations on campus, including Stillwater Magazine and ICTV. My advice for first-year students: try a bit of everything, even if it seems outside your comfort zone—you might discover something you’ll truly love.

Melanie Heim, May '26

Photo of Melanie Heim

Hi my name is Melanie, I am a senior Television and Digital Media Major with a minor in still photography. I am apart of the rowing team here at Ithaca. I am also involved with Ithaca College Television, I am one of the producers of Sports Final as well as working other crew positions for different shows. I also work as a lifeguard at the pool as well as a student engineer for the park studios. A piece of advice that I would give to Pathways students is that it's okay if you do not know what you want to major in yet because with this program you will be able to take many different classes to see what you are interested in. I would say enjoy the process of finding your major because you never know what may interest you and where you will wind up.

Claire VanAcker, May '26

I am a Senior with a double major in Politics with a concentration in International Studies and World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures! I intern with CUSLAR (The Committee on US-Latin American Relations) at Cornell, work with IT as a Support Consultant, am a Peer Leader for an ICSM, and a PAL for the Exploratory Program! I was an Exploratory student for as long as possible before I declared my double major, and my advice to any new Pathways students is to take as many credits as you can in the subjects you are interested in! Try adding things you're unsure about; you might be surprised by how you feel once you learn more. Being an Exploratory student is not easy but remain curious and determined through the journey!

Cameron Stanford, May '26

Cameron

My name is Cameron Stanford. I’m a Senior Politics major with minors in both German and Environmental Studies. I’m a member of the Ithaca Rowing team as well as being on the Trading Card Club E-board. If you’re an incoming or first year Pathways student don’t be afraid to come say hi to me on campus! If you want some advice though, don’t be afraid to trust your instinct and drop classes if you think you won’t enjoy it!
