Claire Gleitman

Welcome to the School of Humanities and Sciences at Ithaca College!  We are so very happy that you have chosen to make H&S your home as you embark on your academic journey at Ithaca College.  We are confident that you will find unlimited opportunities for exploration, growth, and learning in H&S, where you will be supported by a world-class faculty, a devoted staff, and an extraordinary student body. All of us look forward to welcoming you when you arrive and helping you to find your path, as you enter our vibrant and dynamic campus culture.

Claire Gleitman, Dean of H&S

A smiling woman

Hello Brand New Bombers! We can’t wait to meet you in August and give you a big in-person welcome to H&S (our affectionate nickname for the School of Humanities and Sciences). Between now and then, please let the Dean’s Office team know if you have any questions or concerns. We’ll be working all summer preparing for your arrival so you can email or call at any time, using our contact information listed here. Once you’re on campus, we’re here for support—to recommend resources, advise you on time management or study strategies, or to strategize for success.

Amy O'Dowd, Associate Dean of Student Services

First-year Students

Ithaca College’s team of academic advising experts will use your survey answers to construct a personalized schedule that includes:

  • At least one course in your major or pathway
  • Your required first-year seminar (Ithaca Seminar)
  • In some cases, you’ll also have an elective or core curriculum course that helps you meet graduation requirements, learn transferrable skills, and explore some new subjects that align with your interests.
  • A total of 14–16 credits. Even though your tuition covers up to 18 credits per semester, we advise that you NOT exceed the credits in your fall schedule so you can be most successful in your first semester.

*Do you need to take the Language Placement Exam? If you will be majoring in English, History, or Politics, or if you plan to take a modern language, you must take the Language Placement Exam (see your New Student Checklist).

Complete Your Academic Interests Survey

Don't forget—you can access your New Student Checklist and Academic Interests Survey through IC Connect. Your Academic Interests Survey should be completed by June 15 in order to ensure that you’ll be placed in courses that meet your needs and interests.
