At Ithaca College, the position of marshal for degree candidates is one of the highest honors bestowed on graduating seniors. These marshals are selected in March for the Commencement ceremony in May. Selected students are, with a few exceptions, the undergraduates who have maintained the highest GPA in their respective schools.

Every year we ask our graduates to complete the First Destination Survey to share their post-graduation plans. The survey takes less than five minutes to complete, and is a task that must be completed for graduation. You will not receive your diploma in the mail until you have completed your survey!
Not sure what you're doing yet? It's okay to tell us that and go back later to update your survey once your plans are in place. If you need support in figuring out your plans, email the Center for Career Exploration and Development at careers@ithaca.edu.
IC's Graduate Hooding and Commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. ET inside the Athletics and Events Center's Glazer Arena.
