Asicaz Monzón-Aguirre: INVOCATIONS
In Invocations , Monzón-Aguirre brings together artworks from the past five years that examine the relationship between ancestral land, spirituality, and contemporary understandings of the world. Anchored in personal experience and grounded in technique and culturally specific ornamental traditions, the work is nonetheless profoundly deliberate in its semioticity. Through meanings embedded in form, material, and medium, each work becomes a locus of subtle tension and resistance, quietly challenging narratives around gender, ethnicity, and neo-colonial dynamics. The works in Invocations demonstrate the artist’s command of ceramics while extending into video, textiles, and painting.
We will host an opening reception on Wednesday, January 28th from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. The artist will also give a talk in the Gallery on Thursday January 29th at 5:30 p.m.
