Exploratory Peer Ambassadors and Leaders
How did you choose your major? If you are still Exploratory, how are you working on choosing a major and what choices are you considering?
I went to an interest meeting for Theatre Arts Management (TAM) first semester of my freshman year. Meeting people from the major got me really excited about the possibilities of what I could learn and do with that major. I didn't actually apply for the major until late February of my freshman year because I've heard that all too often phrase "ooo theatre is risky". But at some point I decided that TAM was the best option for me to gain an education at IC, even if I didn't end up doing theatre.
What was your favorite resource to use when you were an Exploratory student?
Creating a 4 year plan was literally priceless. I still look at mine and change it often. I also found WCYDWAMI (What could you do with a major in) incredibly useful when I was telling my parents that I could find a job with a major in theatre arts management.
What do you like most about the Exploratory program?
While priority registration is a great perk, having peer mentors as a resource is great. They can offer you advice or guidance without it feeling like an adult is talking down to you. They've been through what you're going through, so they will give you very useful advice.
What is your biggest piece of advice to other Exploratory students?
Speak to other exploratory students and people of different majors. All exploratory students are exploring their options just like you. Speaking to them and sharing your experiences might help you find an interest. That is how I found out about the interest meeting for TAM! Getting to know students from various majors is also really helpful because they can tell you about their department through their eyes and can spark interests in things you never considered.
What extracurricular activities are you involved with on campus?
I am a part of Ithaca College's ICircus club,as well as the Production Liaison for the Department of Theatre Arts, and the Liaison for the board of IC Second Stage.
