Screening and discussion Feb. 14, 2009

7 p.m., Cinemapolis

The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival and 7th Art announce a discussion forum to follow the 7:00 pm screening of WALTZ WITH BASHIR on Saturday February 14.

THE MOVIE: Surprised that he can't remember anything about his experiences as a young Israeli soldier involved in the Lebanon war in the early eighties, director Ari Folman decides to meet and interview old friends and comrades around the world. He needs to discover the truth about that time and about himself. As Ari delves
deeper and deeper into the mystery, his memories begin to creep up in surreal images. To express the inexpressible, Folman developed his own stirringly effective medium--the documentary-animation. WALTZ WITH BASHIR is collecting many honors, including most recently the Oscar nomination and the Golden Globe award for Best Foreign Film.

THE DISCUSSION LEADERS: Beth Harris (Politics, Ithaca College); Rebecca Lesses (Jewish Studies; Ithaca College); and Deborah Starr (Near Eastern Studies, Cornell University) plus moderator Luke Fenshel (arts critic, Ithaca Journal).
