Licensing and Approval Process

All merchandise that displays any of Ithaca College's protected terms must be produced by a vendor that is an approved licensee through the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC). Once licensed, vendors must submit proofs of all merchandise designs through the LLP Approvals on Demand system to ensure they meet Ithaca College brand standards. Vendors will generally be notified within five business days if their artwork is approved or requires revision.

There are two types of licensed vendors:

License TypeWho should apply?Royalties
InternalLicensees (approved vendors) who fulfill orders at the request of internal faculty, staff, or students and/or whose businesses are located in Tompkins County, New YorkDo not apply
RetailLicensees (approved vendors) whose businesses are outside of Tompkins County, New York.10% royalty fee

It takes approximately four to ten weeks for a vendor to become an approved licensee, depending on the type of license.  Additional information can be found in the CLC License Type Quick Reference Guide.  After approval, vendors may access the official Ithaca College artwork and begin designing merchandise.

Due to the time associated with application, you may find it easier to work with a vendor that is already licensed for Ithaca College. The Ithaca College Bookstore maintains relationships with many highly qualified vendors with restricted licenses. Ithaca College encourages faculty, staff, and students to order custom merchandise through the bookstore for this reason.

All merchandise produced through this process must contain the "officially licensed collegiate product" label on the item or packaging. Licensed vendors will receive this label and instructions for use when they become licensed.
