The Office for Public Safety and Emergency Management has certified patrol officers and security officers assigned to our bike patrol unit.  The bike patrol has proven to be an enhancement to the department and the community at large. Patrols are conducted during the day, evening, and nights. During the shifts, officers engage in proactive policing and community relations. Bike patrol units are often able to respond to on campus calls faster and generally more convenient for visitors and members of the campus community to approach than an officer in a police car.

The Bike Patrol Unit has proven to be a great asset in assisting with special events on campus with crowd and traffic control as well as crime prevention. Security Officers receive in-house training and Patrol Officers have been specially trained in bicycle history, nomenclature, maintenance, effective cycling, crash analysis, injuries, health & fitness, and advanced riding techniques. Officers obtain this specially training at Ithaca College and are certified by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services after successfully completing the required 40 hours course of instruction.
