Specialized Studio for Operatic Singers

Perform as a singer in the Ithaca College Opera Studio to gain additional stage experience while working alongside up and coming industry professionals.

Receive dramatic and musical coaching with industry professionals as a member of the Ithaca College Opera Studio. Spend 2 weeks with us on the beautiful Ithaca College campus expanding your professional network, building your repertoire, and gaining skills to advance your operatic career. Opera Studio will operate May 16 - May 28, 2022 on the Ithaca College campus. The studio is a full-time commitment during this period. 

Opera Studio includes participation in masterclasses and lectures that prepare you to be the performer that people want to hire and work alongside. You will have the opportunity to prepare and perform operatic scenes with a musical coach, an experienced conductor, and an acting coach directed by up-and-coming operatic stage directors who are completing the final level of their professional certification. The studio experience culminates in a performance of the selected scene, and you will receive a recording of your performance for future audition work.

The Artistic and Faculty Director of the program is dawn pierce, mezzo-soprano, a native of Olean, New York, and currently an Assistant Professor of Voice at Ithaca College, Artistic Director of the young artist program with Opera Company of Middlebury, and is on the advisory board for the International Performing Arts Institute in Kiefersfelden, Germany. She is an active performer with a passion for opera.  She recently released her comprehensive course called “How to Sing” with the Great Courses and is nationally sought after for masterclasses and vocal expertise. The cost for the opera studio is $1,000. This cost includes:

  • All instructional materials and masterclasses with industry professionals;
  • Musical and dramatic coaching;
  • Career counseling;
  • Rehearsal and performance pianist;
  • Rehearsal and performance in a selected scene with a stage director; and
  • Marketable "audition" recording of your vocal skills.

If you require room and board, for an additional $600 we are able to provide:

  • On campus housing in a single room in a residence hall. While the room is private, the residence hall will have a shared bathroom and kitchen; and
  • A meal pass (value up to $30) that can be used Monday - Friday on campus for breakfast or lunch (weekend and evening meals are at your own expense).

Please note if you are an Ithaca College residential student, it may be possible to extend your stay at an additional cost in your existing residential hall room or apartment (residents of a Circles Apartment are not required to move), however this is not guaranteed and will depend upon its location. You may be required to move if you wish to remain on campus.
