Alex Montgomery '24 is the recipient of the Bill and Donna Bergmark Scholarship Award.
Awarded to students with a record of academic excellence who are majoring in chemistry or biochemistry.
About Alex:
Alexandra Montgomery is a senior biochemistry major and also has minors in Spanish and IC Honors. She is an outside hitter on the Ithaca College varsity volleyball team, a teaching assistant for the Spanish department, and has done research in Dave Gondek’s Lab for the last two years. Last year for her 390-project she researched the effects of prebiotics and probiotics on a microbiome and explored the “The Great Plate Count Anomaly”. This is idea that not all bacteria can grow in a laboratory setting explaining some limitations to a lot of research and showing the benefits of techniques like deep sequencing. Post graduation she plans to take a gap year to work as an EMT, and then attend medical school.
