Play 3: American Promise
by Danyé Brown
November 6-9, 2025
American Promise is a verbatim play in development that explores the immigrant experience in the United States. Built from transcribed interviews with immigrants, the script draws entirely on their spoken words and non-verbal expressions, preserving authenticity while concealing individual identities. At its core, the project asks how actors—many without personal immigration experience—may cultivate empathy by embodying lives and stories very different from their own. Through rehearsal, performance, and eventual publication, American Promise examines the power of theatre to deepen understanding, challenge assumptions, and illuminate the human journey of migration.
