I first joined Ithaca College as a Diversity Scholars Fellow (now the Julian Euell Future Faculty Fellowship) and have since taken a dual-appointment in the Psychology department and Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies program.
Since joining IC, I have developed and taught courses that foreground diverse and critical viewpoints, such as 'Psychology of Women', 'Queer-ying Psychology', 'Psychology and the Law' and 'Psychology of Sexual & Gender-Based Violence'. I am committed to fostering an educational environment that emphasizes inclusion and intersectionality, while promoting student creativity and wellbeing. Beyond my role as Associate Professor, I am involved in anti-violence training and advocacy at IC and in the larger Ithaca community.
My research is largely oriented around intersectional analyses of sexual norms and sexual stereotypes. My primary line of research examines ethnocentrism in constructions of ‘normal’ sexuality, blending social cognition research on the framing of group differences with decolonial feminist theory. I am also interested in cultural stereotypes about sexual violence, best practices in violence prevention, and pedagogical research on the use of histories of Psychology to teach critical thinking.
