The ITI faculty offer a wide variety of approaches to the written and visual arts. All are working contemporary artists who publish and exhibit their work in national and international contexts. Our faculty are dedicated to innovative approaches and traditions that value psychologically, culturally and politically engaged work.

Claudia Rankine is the author of five collections of poetry, including Citizen & Don’t Let Me Be Lonely, and the play, Provenance of Beauty: A South Bronx Travelogue, commissioned by the Foundry Theatre and Existing Conditions (co-authored with Casey Llewellyn). Rankine is co-editor of American Women Poets in the 21st Century series with Wesleyan University Press and The Racial Imaginary: Writers on Race in the Life of the Mind with Fence Books. A recipient of awards and fellowships from The Academy of American Poets, The American Academy of Arts and Letters, The Lannan Foundation, Poets and Writers the National Endowments for the Arts, and a finalist for The National Book Award and a recent recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship. She is currently the Frederick Iseman Professor of Poetry at Yale University.
