Course Title: Virtual Reality Intensive
This weekend intensive course was designed to immerse students in the world of virtual reality as an entertainment and communications tool. We explored how this new technology is used in settings from sports to entertainment to research.
The first day is focused on a survey approach, we will meet with people from organizations on the cutting edge of visualization.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the cutting edge of virtual reality application. We will be meeting with Kris Knife Brand Strategist to learn why they went in this direction and how it has impacted the marketing for the team.
Advanced Visualization Center - University of South Florida
We will be visiting their cutting edge visualization facility to look at some innovative visualization work, being used in areas from from paleontology to toy design.
The second day we will consult with the developer of a new visualization tool designed to take big data analytics into three dimensions. Throughout our weekend we will get hands on experience with this new form of design by a creating a small VR portrait of Tampa and its food culture.
We will meet world-renowned data scientist Dr. Alon Friedman. Both Dr. Friedman and I research 3-D applications in big data visualization. Dr. Friedman will talk about big data.
