Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary to the Board of Trustees

Guilherme Costa was appointed vice president, general counsel and secretary to the Board of Trustees at Ithaca College in September 2018. He is responsible for providing executive and administrative direction over the college’s legal affairs division, and serves as secretary to the Board of Trustees.

Prior to coming to Ithaca College, Guilherme served as the General Counsel for the South Dakota Board of Regents for three years, spent five years with the general counsel’s office at the University of Idaho, and before that was an attorney at one of the nation’s leading full-service law firms in Washington, D.C. His experience encompasses all areas of law relevant to higher education, including personnel and employment issues, tenure and promotion, labor law, civil rights, Title IX, student affairs, contracts, and risk management.

Guilherme earned a juris doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School, two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Florida, one in business administration and the other in political science, and a master’s degree from the University of Idaho in adult/organizational learning and leadership.
