If You Are Locked Out

  • after 9:00 p.m. on a weekday, go to your Resident Assistant's (RA) door, or contact the RA-on-duty.
  • before 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Saturday or Sunday, find an RA, call the Residence Director (RD)-on-duty, or call Public Safety at (607) 274-3333.
  • at all other times, go to your Area Office.

If you have your ID card, you will be given a lock-out key to use to let yourself back into your room.  A lock-out key must be returned to the Area Office within 24 hours. If it is not returned within this time, an immediate lock change will be ordered at your expense.

If you cannot produce your ID Card, you will be asked to provide your Student ID number. If you cannot, you will be asked to wait for a roommate to return in order to gain access to your room. If you cannot wait for a roommate to return or you live in a single room (or are locked out of a single bedroom in an apartment), you will be escorted to your room, the door will be unlocked, and you will be asked to produce your Student ID Card.

These precautions help to ensure the safety and security of every student and their possessions.

Lock-out Charges

The first lock-out each semester will not result in a charge. For each additional lock-out during the semester, you will be assessed a $10.00 fee whether you receive a lock-out key or are provided access to your room by a staff member. The lock-out fee will be billed to your student account.
