Sanction Guidelines for Community Agreement Violations

An overview of sanctioning guidelines for violations of IC's COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Ithaca College’s Health and Safety Guidelines related to COVID-19 are published within the Campus Health, Safety & Prevention section on the college's Return to Campus website as indicated in the Community Agreement distributed at the beginning of the Fall Semester. Students who qualify for an exception allowing them to be present on campus will nonetheless be restricted from entering campus property if they have not signed the Community Agreement.

Sanction information can be found in the Student Conduct Code Section 7.1.2.8: Sanctions.

It is important to note that this sanction grid only applies once a finding of responsibility has occurred. Outcomes may vary and are determined on a case by case basis, with consideration of the following:

  • A student’s past disciplinary record and history of past behavior, especially when that behavior is similar in nature;
  • The potential for ongoing risk to the student, other individuals, or the community;
  • The extent of harm caused and the impact on individuals or the community as a whole;
  • A student’s level of intent, remorse, cooperation, and willingness to take responsibility;
  • Severity of the misconduct
