Ithaca College Greenhouse Gas Emissions

GHG Emissions Through FY25

Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions inventories for Ithaca College have reduced almost 50% from 2007, and is now 17,960 Net Metric Tons of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (Net MTCDE).

As initiated by the 2009 Climate Action Plan, IC measures the amount of greenhouse gas emissions it creates each fiscal year. Ithaca College has stated through this plan that it seeks to be climate neutral by 2050. To date, IC has reduced its emissions by approximately half. Challenging work remains to reduce its remaining emissions.

GHG Emissions are made up of Scope 1 (direct carbon emissions from stationary and mobile fuel sources), Scope 2 (emissions from purchased electricity), and Scope 3 (indirect emissions). 2007 serves as the base year for measuring IC’s GHG Emissions. In FY2007, IC measured a net 32,781 MTCO2E. In its most recent audited measurement (FY2025) IC measured a net 17,960.3 MTCO2E. FY25 emissions are a slight increase from FY24 emissions largely due to higher on campus natural gas use associated with a colder winter and increased campus associated travel.
