Pre-Screening Audition Requirements

There are currently pre-screening audition requirements in the following areas:

  • All Voice applicants (video recording required)
  • All Drum Set applicants (video recording required)
  • B.M. in Sound Recording Technology (video recording required)
  • B.M. in Composition
  • M.M. in Composition
  • M.M. in Conducting

Materials and Deadlines

All application materials and video recordings for both the School of Music and Ithaca College must be submitted by the following dates:

  • November 1 for applicants who would like to audition in December (including Early Decision applicants)
  • December 1 for all other applicants

Once a student's prescreening materials are reviewed and accepted, they will need to review and confirm their audition materials for their final audition. These can be found on the Undergraduate Admission Requirements page.

Submission

All pre-screening materials must be submitted through the online Audition Form by December 1 (Early Decision submissions are due by November 1).

Information regarding acceptable electronic formats can be found here. Please note that all Undergraduate Voice, Drum Set, and Sound Recording Technology applicants must submit a video recording.

B.M. in Sound Recording Technology
  1. Two pieces of contrasting styles.
  2. Three scales and arpeggios of your choosing.
Cello B.M. in Sound Recording Technology
  1. Two pieces of contrasting styles.
  2. Three scales and arpeggios of your choosing.
Clarinet B.M. in Sound Recording Technology
  1. Two pieces of contrasting styles.
  2. Three scales and arpeggios of your choosing.
Composition B.M. in Composition
  1. Two (2) scores of original works (with sound files, if possible)
Composition M.M. in Composition
  1. Three (3) scores of original works (with sound files, if possible)
Conducting M.M. in Conducting
  1. 15-20 minute video recording of their conducting (rehearsal/performance),
    with the camera facing the applicant.
Double Bass B.M. in Sound Recording Technology
  1. Two pieces of contrasting styles.
  2. Three scales and arpeggios of your choosing.
Drum Set All undergraduate degrees and minors

1. Demonstration of drum set styles:

  1. Swing with sticks
  2. Swing with brushes
  3. Bossa Nova and one other latin style
  4. Two different rock styles
  5. Two different funk styes

  3. One additional song of your choice from traditional vocal literature (musical theater selections, jazz, or original compositions are not acceptable)

**Please limit selections to one oratorio or opera aria**

Voice B.M. in Jazz Studies
  1. One memorized selection from the traditional classical vocal literature
    (no arias composed after 1750 will be accepted)
  2. One memorized ballad, blues selection, or jazz standard with improvisation (suggested list)
