Meet with an Academic Advisor

Speaking with an academic advisor is the first step toward successful study abroad planning.

Planning with the assistance of an academic advisor is critical when students first begin considering a study abroad experience. Academic advisors can assist students with:

  • choosing the best semester to study abroad based on major/minor degree requirements and sequencing of classes on campus.
  • determining which academic requirements must be fulfilled during the study abroad experience to remain on track for graduation.
  • identifying other academic considerations important to the student's progress toward graduation that might impact study abroad planning.
  • considering whether a summer or winter program might be a better option than a full semester for students with busy schedules.
  • discussing the viability of more than one study abroad experience for students who wish to pursue this option.

Students can meet with their assigned faculty advisors or with a staff member in the Academic Support Center (A.S.C.).

Once a student has met with an academic advisor and understands when they should study abroad and which academic requirements they will need to fulfill while abroad, the next step is meeting with a study abroad advisor in the Office of International Programs.
