Study Abroad Credit Approval

Study abroad credit approval can be intimidating. To help minimize confusion, we have outlined the requirements for credit transfer, based on program type, while also providing information about petitioning for ICC credit approval.

IC LONDON CENTER & IC FACULTY-LED PROGRAMS

COURSE APPROVAL IS NOT REQUIRED
Students who study at the Ithaca College London Center and on Ithaca College Short-Term Faculty-Led programs are not required to obtain course approvals for completed coursework to appear on their transcripts. Extramural students who participate in these programs should check with their home schools to learn about the credit approval process specific to their institution.

AFFILIATED & EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

ELECTIVE CREDIT
All coursework taken with Ithaca College Affiliated programs and Ithaca College Exchange programs are guaranteed to automatically transfer back to Ithaca College as non-designated elective credits so long as an official transcript has been received by the Office of the Registrar upon completion of the program. Transcripts should be submitted to: Office of the Registrar, 953 Danby Road, Ithaca, New York, 14850. If your program offers official electronic transcripts send to registrar@ithaca.edu. Note: that ALL grades (including C-, D+, D, D- and F) will transfer back to the college and will be averaged into the student's overall GPA.

FULFILLING SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
If students would like study abroad coursework to fulfill major/minor requirements, ICCs, major/minor specific electives, liberal arts electives, or other types of requirements, the Ithaca College Office of the Registrar requires that these courses be approved by the chairperson of the relevant department on a Study Abroad Course Approval form, along with approval from their academic advisor, and dean. Please note that ICCs need to be approved on both the Study Abroad Course Approval form AND the ICC credit approval form (see the ICC Course Approval section, below). Note: that ALL grades (including C-, D+, D, D- and F) will transfer back to the college and will be averaged into the student's overall GPA.

STUDY ABROAD COURSE APPROVAL FORM

NON-AFFILIATED PROGRAMS

ALL COURSES MUST BE APPROVED
When students study on a non-affiliated basis, the Ithaca College Office of the Registrar requires a completed Study Abroad Course Approval form for ALL coursework taken abroad as well as the submission of an official transcript from the study abroad program upon completion. Transcripts should be submitted to: Office of the Registrar, 953 Danby Road, Ithaca, New York, 14850. If your program offers official electronic transcripts send to registrar@ithaca.edu. Note: These courses are treated as transfer credit and a grade of "T" (for transfer credit) will appear on the student's academic record.

FULFILLING SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Ithaca College allows students studying on Non-Affiliated programs to fulfill major/minor, ICCs, liberal arts electives, or other graduation requirements, however, these courses must be approved on the Study Abroad Course Approval form form as mentioned above. Please note that ICC requirements must be approved on both the Study Abroad Course Approval form AND on the ICC Petition for Study Abroad (see the ICC Course Approval section, below).

Themes & Perspectives; Diversity; Quantitative Literacy; and Writing Intensive

In addition to the receipt of an official transcript and a completed Course Approval form, the Ithaca College Office of the Registrar requires the submission of an approved ICC Petition for Study Abroad for each course a student would like considered for ICC credit.
