All incoming first-year HEOP scholars are required to participate in a five-week Summer Institute prior to entering Ithaca College.
Summer Institute provides a valuable and exciting preview of intensive and rigorous coursework at Ithaca College. Incoming first-year students collaborate with each other as they adjust to the demands, creativity, and expectations of higher education at Ithaca College.
The Summer Institute offers several courses which focus on mathematical and writing skills, academic success strategies, and social development. Besides an interdisciplinary academic experience, the Summer Institute provides career, cultural, social, and leadership development, along with recreational activities on the campus, in the Ithaca community, and regionally within New York State.
As participants emerge from successfully completing the Summer Institute, they will have achieved student empowerment, self-efficacy, and confidence to grow as Ithaca College scholars.
