Advisor Checklist

1. Check in on Student Progress

Academic Progress

  • Review midterm grades.
  • Direct students to academic support or other campus resources as needed.

Goals and Opportunities
Use the advising appointment to discuss the student’s larger goals and plans, including:

  • Summer internships, jobs, and performance opportunities
  • London or other study abroad opportunities
  • Post-graduate work
  • Graduate school
  • Other professional or academic goals

As appropriate, refer students to the Center for Career Exploration and Development for support with CV/resume preparation, cover letters, internship applications etc.

2. Prepare for Spring Registration

Review Pre-Registration

Compare the student’s degree schematic with their Degree Works audit.

Together, determine the best set of courses for the student to take next semester.

Remember: The courses listed on the schematic for a particular semester are a suggested sequence, not a mandate . If you and the student decide on a different course sequence:

  1. Confirm that the revised sequence keeps the student on track for degree completion.
  2. Check the IC Undergraduate Catalog to verify the frequency with which courses are offered.
  3. Consider prerequisites, sequencing, and other course requirements that could affect future registration.

If students plan to study abroad in a future semester, refer them to the study aboard office. The deadline for study aboard in AY 2027-2028 is February 15, 2027.

Spring 2027 approved course substitutions

  • THEA 10600 Race and Theatre: We are planning on offering a few sections next year for those interested. Otherwise students can take any course designated DIV to substitute for this requirement.
