JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Maintain excellence in:
    • Professionalism
    • Building client rapport
    • Educating clients in health, fitness, and wellness.
  • Enforce and follow policies and procedures of the Wellness Clinic.
  • Ensure client safety with spotting, appropriate exercise technique, cuing, and emergency care.
  • Client workout supervision and guided fitness training to level of education and training (i.e., assist clients in execution of their exercise prescription or other exercises, monitor client progress and goal attainment)
  • Teach group exercise if qualified and interested.
  • Facility and equipment maintenance and launder towels. 
  • Maintain client, facility, and equipment records.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Matriculated student at Ithaca College. 
  • Availability to work during weekday operational hours (6 am – 7 pm), preferably for multiple semesters.
  • Successful completion of EXSS 12500 Foundations of Exercise Science, EXSS 26200 Personal Training course, Personal Training certification, undergraduate degree in Exercise Science or related field, or related coursework/experience.  
  • Ability to interact in a professional and courteous manner with people of diverse ages, cultures, and communication styles.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, busy environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and work ethic.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Commitment to client confidentiality.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred, especially Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
  • Required Certifications/Trainings upon hiring:  Adult CPR/AED, HIPAA, Blood Borne Pathogen, and Harassment Prevention Certification/Training.

Preference will be given to students in the Department of Exercise Science and Athletic Training (ESAT) or in the School of HSHP, as well as students who have been awarded Federal Work Study.

    • Screening clients for medical/health risks. 
    • Conducting exercise orientations, fitness evaluations, and graded exercise tests.
    • Developing and delivering exercise programs.
    • Monitoring client progress and goal attainment.
  • Teach group exercise if interested.
  • Facility and equipment maintenance and launder towels. 
  • Maintain client, facility, and equipment records.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Matriculated student at Ithaca College.

  • Successful completion of Personal Training course or personal training certification from a nationally recognized organization.*
  • *Graduate students with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science (or related field) with relevant experience or certification are exempt from the Personal Training course requirement.
  • Knowledge of health-related fitness testing and exercise techniques and programming.

  • Prepare, lead, educate and encourage participants through safe and effective group exercise sessions.
  • Teach scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provide adequate warm-up, workout, stretching, and cool down; provide exercise modifications.
  • Monitor participants intensity.
  • Record participant attendance.
  • Enforce and follow policies and procedures of the Wellness Clinic.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Matriculated student at Ithaca College. 
  • Specialized knowledge and/or certification (must have at least one of the following):
    • Degree in Exercise Science or related field, OR
    • Current HSHP student at sophomore level or above, OR
    • Nationally recognized certification in personal training or group exercise, OR 
    • Specific certification in class format (i.e., Zumba, yoga, cycling, etc.).

  • Make photocopies and mail, fax, or email documents.
  • Maintain client, facility, and equipment records.
  • Facility & equipment maintenance and launder towels. 
  • Ensure client safety and provide emergency care.
